The land of the dinosaurs, a Jurassic Park down under, is Winton. With increasing fossil discoveries and the world’s only stampeding dino tracks, the area is doubly famous as the home of that Aussie Ballad ‘Waltzing Matilda’. Fittingly, a local Bush Poet, Gregory North, waxed lyrical with Banjo Patterson’s finest every night at 7pm. With a little Opal shopping and tasty pub steak, Winton was great.
We stayed in Matilda Country Holiday Park, at $40 a night with a decent pool and Bush Poet. An appropriate launch pad for exploring the regions dinosaur exhibits and the Blanderburg National Park’s almost dried up swimming holes.
