Despite doubt ridden COVID closed border predictions, we crossed the Northern Territory border, patrolled by some thorough but friendly police and army personnel who provided some helpful travel advice especially ‘the cage of death’. We passed multiple ‘Sorry no fuel’ signs along the desert road until we pulled into the oasis looking ‘Barkly Homestead’ ‘first pub in the NT’. Diesel was a hot $1.78 compared with cheapest $1.15- ouch, but fair enough in the isolated outback. The pub feed was delicious, happy hour buzzing and the pool full of happy kids.
